Set in the early 1990s in Haridwar, the film follows Prem Prakash Tiwari (Ayushmann Khurrana), a reluctant, underachieving cassette shop owner who is married off to Sandhya (Bhumi Pednekar), an educated, overweight woman who runs a coaching center. Prem is embarrassed by Sandhya’s size and still pines for a slim, modern girl. Sandhya, in contrast, is confident, ambitious, and hurt by Prem’s constant humiliation. Their marriage is fraught with petty fights, resentment, and a lack of physical intimacy. The breaking point comes when Prem publicly humiliates her at a talent contest.
