The name Hidayah translates to "The Guide." He wrote it as a detailed commentary ( Sharh ) on his own earlier work, Bidayat al-Mubtadi ("The Beginning for the Beginner"). His goal was simple: to create a middle-ground text—not too brief to be obscure, and not too verbose to be exhausting. He succeeded spectacularly. The name Hidayah translates to "The Guide

For over eight centuries, Al-Hidayah has stood as one of the most authoritative and widely taught texts in Hanafi jurisprudence (fiqh). Authored by the great Islamic scholar Burhan al-Din al-Marghinani (d. 1197 CE / 593 AH), this work is a detailed commentary on his own earlier text, Bidayat al-Mubtadi . Today, students and researchers worldwide seek reliable PDF versions of Al-Hidayah for study and reference.

In the academic world, and in almost all modern PDF editions, Al-Hidayah is rarely printed without the marginal notes of Ibn al-Humam. His commentary, Fath al-Qadir , is so integral that it essentially functions as the final layer of the text. Ibn al-Humam sifted through the narrations from the founders (Imam Abu Hanifa and his two students, Abu Yusuf and Muhammad al-Shaybani), verifying the correct transmission and establishing the strongest positions for practice. Thus, the modern Al-Hidayah is a composite of the Matn (Marghinani), the Sharh (Marghinani), and the Hashiya (Ibn al-Humam).

I’m thinking of buying Affinity as my current InDesign is getting expensive in my retired years. What are the main advantages (apart from cost) and disadvantages to converting?

“Much like the other operating systems, you’ll have to install the font on the device in order to use it in Affinity Designer. However, fonts are not installed the same way on an iPad as they are on other desktop devices, and for several reasons.”

You do not have to install a font on your Apple iPad to use it in Affinity Designer. Affinity Designer for iPad supports importing fonts into the application itself from the “Fonts” submenu of the settings menu, provided the font is stored as a file that can be accessed by Designer.
