Launch the game. You should see a save file with a post-it note covered in red markers, and the file name should read "Dead God" (or 1001% if the file is old). Go to "Stats" -> "Items". If you see the "Death Certificate" icon, you have succeeded.
Steam Cloud is not infallible. Many users report their 500-hour save file vanishing after a PC crash or a syncing error. Re-grinding Repentance from scratch is not like redoing Mario . It requires specific, RNG-dependent unlocks (like finding a Missing Poster to unlock The Lost, or dodging 15 minutes of bullets to unlock The Forgotten).
If Steam Cloud remains active, Steam will detect that your local file differs from the cloud and automatically overwrite your newly downloaded save with your previous progress.
