The software creates a "logical" fix but ignores the "physical" reality. Resetting the counter tells the printer the waste pads are empty. However, the physical pads remain soaked with ink. If you reset the counter multiple times without replacing the pads or installing an external waste tank, ink will eventually overflow inside the printer, causing circuit board failure and a mess on your desk.
