The premiere follows Yuta Ono (played by ), a naive student who has failed his college entrance exams. To be near his girlfriend at Rokkyo University, he moves to Tokyo and finds an impossibly cheap share-house in an information magazine.

The premise is deceptively simple: A ronin (a student who failed his college entrance exams) named Yuta Otsuka moves to the bohemian district of Shimokitazawa to study for university. To cover his living expenses, he takes a live-in job as a "handyman" at a traditional boarding house. He expects peace, quiet, and a place to study.
