Hypnodb is the brainchild of a loosely affiliated collective of producers, visual designers, and programmers based primarily in Berlin and Tokyo. The core musical producers—known by the monikers Aster and Mira —cite influences ranging from early IDM (Aphex Twin, Autechre) to the ambient textures of William Basinski. Their intent, according to an interview in Pixel Pulse (2023), was to “create a sonic archive of the internet’s subconscious, a place where forgotten memes become ghost‑notes in a digital cathedral.”

The Hypnodb project, anchored by Isabella, illustrates how modern artists can harness AI, retro aesthetics, and participatory media to construct that evolve alongside their audiences. In doing so, it invites us to reconsider the boundaries between creator and creation, between memory and simulation, and ultimately, between the real and the hyperreal that now dominate our cultural imagination.
