Repacking a reactor without RG catalyst is a high-risk, temporary contingency measure, not a standard operating practice. It sacrifices contaminant removal and reaction control, increasing fouling, safety hazards, and downstream catalyst life reduction. Unless the process stream is already highly saturated and sulfur-free, an RG catalyst-free repack should only be performed with strict operational limits and continuous monitoring.
